  2. DataScope reads and writes 2D 4-byte floating
  3. point data in HDF; allows text files to be read and
  4. converted to data; reads HDF palettes; generates
  5. images, interpolated images, and polar images;
  6. magnifies images; allows the user to specify data
  7. attributes such as data display format,
  8. elimination of outliers in displayed images, data
  9. column and row labels, and dataset labels; 
  10. performs standard Macintosh clipboard copy and
  11. paste; and performs mathematical operations on
  12. the data via a notebook that can be saved with
  13. the data.  The viewing of several data sets is
  14. facilitated by the synchronization feature, and
  15. subregions of the 2D data can be extracted from
  16. the original dataset.  User-written subroutines
  17. can be used via the notebook to perform
  18. operations on the data.

  20. New features of this version of DataScope
  21. include the ability to link to a remote host (eg, a
  22. Cray), run programs that generate 2D data, and
  23. route the output back to DataScope on the Mac
  24. for viewing and additional processing.  In
  25. addition, user-written subroutines residing on the
  26. remote host can be applied to 2D datasets in
  27. DataScope via the notebook.
